Taking part in a musical is a substantial commitment for the students, but also for their families. Please look over the following items to make sure you and your child feel you can honor the commitment to being a part of a show.
Attendance: Rehearsals will generally take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 6:30; however, rehearsals may be added as needed the closer we get to the production. The added rehearsals include three to four Saturdays. Please look over the tentative rehearsal schedule closely to make sure your child has no conflicts with the rehearsals or show dates. Please make sure you have arranged for your child to be picked up ON TIME from each rehearsal as the directors have other obligations after rehearsals. All rehearsals are mandatory unless otherwise noted. Allowable/excused absences include sickness, emergency doctor appointment, or family emergency. Please notify a director immediately about any absences. We rely on each other to be at rehearsal, and it is difficult to rehearse when even one cast member is absent! Each cast member is IMPORTANT to our success!!! Missing more than 2 rehearsals for ANY reason could result in the inability to participate in the musical. (Note for stage crew: your start date for rehearsals will start much later. You will be phased in as we add your part of the show to rehearsals.)
Rehearsals: Please refer to the rehearsal schedule for when your student should attend. Students should bring their scripts, a pencil, a snack, and wear shoes and clothes that allow for movement. Athletic shorts, sweatpants and leggings are allowed if you follow the rules for PE dress code. No spaghetti straps or tank tops, please. Also, no crocks or slides, they are tripping hazards as you move and practice choreography.
Homework: Students will have some homework for the show, including memorizing lines and songs, rehearsing their dances, researching their character, etc. Please check with your student to make sure he/she is ready for rehearsal. Students must bring a book or schoolwork with them to rehearsal to complete at times when they are not needed on stage. There will be a good bit of downtime throughout the rehearsal process for certain cast members, and students are required to bring something quiet to do while rehearsal continues for other parts of the cast.
Attitude and Behavior: The rehearsal room and theater are safe spaces where young people can take positive risks and be themselves without the fear of being laughed at or alienated. This principle is essential to artistic growth and exploration. Participants are expected to respect this and are encouraged to remember it themselves when trying new things. Students are expected to listen to all directions given from directors and to help protect the rehearsal environment. Excessive talking, being out of area, disrespect towards other students or directors, and off task behavior are not permitted. Students who continue to display these behaviors may lose the privilege of being in the show.
Cast & Crew Dues: Cast dues for Legally Blonde, Jr. are $50.00, Crew Dues are $25.00. Please do not pay any dues until you have been assigned a part in the musical. Musical productions are costly to produce, and we cannot produce this play without your support! Please note that this cost includes some costumes and helps to pay for production costs including script, set, props, sound/lighting, etc. Students will be required to provide their own make-up for performances, appropriate undergarments, and other performance related clothing. You may pay online through My Payments Plus, or you may write a check made payable to McClure Middle School. The cast dues will be added to the MPP in late August. Please note: If your child chooses to drop out of the production for any reason after signing the Musical Contract, parents will not receive a refund of the Cast Dues. If a student is removed from the musical for inappropriate behavior, misconduct, excessive absences from practice, or a failure to fulfill the terms listed on this contract, AT ANY TIME DURING THE SHOW’S DURATION, payment will not be refunded. ***Should this fee create a financial hardship for your family, please let one of the directors know ASAP, and we will be happy to discuss options with you. The directors would never want financial burden to be a reason that a student is unable to participate in the show.
If you have questions, please reach out to one of the directors:
